My partner and I booked this tour when in Launceston and I cannot recommend it highly enough - we had a fantastic day ! We were lucky enough to have the tour guide, Jan, to ourselves on this particular day and that just added to the experience. Jan is truly one of a kind and the entire tour is more than a wine tour it is an experience which combines wineries/history/great food/ quizzes and a lot of laughs along the way. We did not have a good knowledge of wines and the wine making process etc and Jan was able to educate us in a fun and informative way. The wineries are all great and Jan is clearly well respected and loved by each one which makes each visit special. In addition to the 4 wineries we also visited a fantastic berry farm and a top notch gin distillery! I cannot fault this tour and it is a must do if you are in Launceston. Jan educated us so well we bought a heap of wine and had it all conveniently shipped home to Qld (but there is no pressure at all to buy anything). Thank you Jan for a fantastic day mate - we will recommend this tour to all our friends who visit Tasmania!
Jan is an absolutely amazing tour guide! We had so much fun discovering the Tamar Valley with him, he was extremely knowledgeable on the wine, the food and the history of the area and we enjoyed his bus quizzes! I would recommend Jan’s tours to anyone visiting Launceston and the Tamar.
We had an amazing time on Jan’s tour! Jan really goes the extra mile in his service - from getting to know you, stopping the bus to show you local flora and fauna, taking lots of great photos of your group, even carrying your wine! He’s super knowledgeable about wine, the local area and its history - we heard some great facts and anecdotes. He has a great relationship with the winemakers too, so we got to taste some special wines - your credit card will get a workout! The lunch at Goaty Hill was superb - and catered to my vegan and pescetarian friends, no problem. I’ll be telling all my friends - this tour is highly recommended 🙂
What an excellent day we had. This is not just a wine tour. As the name suggests, the “boutique” tour is tailored to the preferences of those on the tour. The owner (Jan) listens carefully to what is wanted and tailors the tour to suit. We swapped out a winery and added a brewery for the boys onboard. This is a true full day tour (over 8 hours) and is entertaining from start to finish with Jan providing the history of the area, some winemaking facts and some pop quizzes to keep you entertained along the way. What is noticeable is the way the winery/brewery staff and owners interact with Jan. it is obvious that he is well liked in the industry and has the respect of all the venues. This is not a “party bus” tour and I would say is suited to those who have a genuine interest in winemaking and the Tamar valley. Jan is clearly passionate about the area and the produce made within it and this shines through during the day. If the above information appeals to you, you have found the tour you want to take. I will be back to visit Jan the next time we make it to Tasmania. 6 stars!!
We had the most amazing day out with an excellent host. Jan went above and beyond to accommodate us. We had a fun filled day visiting exceptional wineries, a gin distillery and an olive farm. The Tasmanian history story telling was an extra bonus. Highly recommend this tour!
Jan was an incredible guide for our tour of the Tamar valley. So much more than just a wine tour, but enriched with history to give you a full understanding of the region and why its significant. The wineries were amazing. However this is the first wine tour I've been on where the trips between vinyards were equally enjoyable as the wines themselves.
Jan was passionate, knowledgeable & accomodating. This is much more than just a wine tour, you will learn history and see sites throughout Launceston. I have been on a lot of tours to most wine regions throughout Australia and this tour was easily one of my favourites.
The wineries were great. Tour guid more suited to may be a school excursion.after being picked up. The operator Jan paked by river and spent 30min doing a geoligy talk and the next 30min talking about himself. Seriously boring. Then he took a detour via his home to show us his house. And while the history talk about Bushranger Brady and John Batman were interesting. We didn't really need another 15 Min talk on his thought about marvel comics characters because the bridge us called after Mr Batman. The trip to gridalwald is a drive by, so you really miss out on the amazing experience of walking around the court area. Maybe that hour and 30min wasted on geology and his house would have been better spent wandering around the Swiss village. Have done previous wine tours including excellent one with vallybrrook wines in Tamar Valley before so this was so disappointing. Even the frinf I went with was 😞 disappointed
